type Type: The Type whose root type is to be found.

Return Value

Type
The root type in the inheritance hierarchy from which the specified type inherits.

Usage Note

In Visual Basic and C#, you can call this method as an instance method on any object of type Type. When you use instance method syntax to call this method, omit the first parameter. For more information, see Extension Methods (Visual Basic) or Extension Methods (C# Programming Guide).

Remarks

Unless input type is Object or MarshalByRefObject, the returned type will never be Object or MarshalByRefObject, even though all types ultimately inherit from either one of them.
